Getting Started

A walkthrough for a first contract in The Other Side: what a contract involves, how evidence is collected, and what to do when a hunt begins.

Game overview
The Other Side is a 1-6 player co-op horror game. Players work as investigators: identifying entities by collecting evidence at haunted locations, then either escaping or cleansing them. The game has 18 ghost types, 7 maps and 6 evidence types.

Step 1 - Pick a contract

Headquarters

From your headquarters (the garage), interact with the laptop to choose a map and difficulty.

Pick a small map

12 Ravenwood Lane or 1205 Cedar St for your first run.

Mode
Identify

Cleanse mode is harder; learn Identify first.

Difficulty
Novice

1× rewards but you can revive on death.

Step 2 - Buy equipment

Loadout

Use the equipment store screen to load out before starting. For your first run, prioritise these items.

Step 3 - Investigate

In contract

Once you're inside the location, follow these steps in order.

  1. A

    Find the favourite room

    Use your thermometer. The coldest room is the ghost's favourite. Set up your equipment there.

  2. B

    Collect 3 pieces of evidence

    On Novice and Intermediate each ghost has exactly 3 real evidence types. Wait for activity, check your readings, and mark them on your phone. (Expert and Master mix in false evidence - stick to lower difficulties while learning.)

  3. C

    Cross-reference the ghost

    Use the Identifier app on your phone, or the Ghost Identifier tool on this site to find the matching entity.

  4. D

    Lock in and escape

    All players lock in their guess via the Identifier app. Then enter the green box near your vehicle to extract.

Step 4 - Survive hunts

Critical
If you hear the door slam shut, a hunt has started
  • · Drop electronics (your phone is safe)
  • · Find a closet - never hide behind boxes
  • · If caught in the open, break line of sight by turning corners
  • · If you have Holy Water, spray to stun the ghost for 3-5 seconds
  • · If you hear a heartbeat, the ghost sees you. Run.
